The town of Kuilnos is a small Orothoi colony at the mouth of the Almasbradas River, in the Seta Quebrada Valley along the eastern islands northern coast. The valley itself stretches for many miles inland, but at the coast it opens into a large bay known in the native tongue as Baía Da Soluz which is dominated by the islands of Kuilnos Proper. The island acts as a barrier between the sea and the bay, creating a sparkling clear blue lagoon called Águascrista, or rather the Crystal Waters. The bay itself is home to a small village of Overzeese Koningen, who help keep more dangerous and aggressive sea life out of the bay. The river is home to many different species of sport fish, as well as large dangerous caimans, and playful Green Striped River Dolphins.

The main section of the town is built upon a small collection of islands some little way from the mouth itself and is connected to the mainland by a long stone bridge which is itself a neighborhood of the town. Buildings are constructed mostly in a modified Orothoi style with large windows, balconies, and lighter colors to make living in the tropics more bearable for a people used to cool and damp, not hot and humid. Like many Orothoi settlements transport about town is primarily by foot or by boat and very few of the "roads" would accommodate a large animal or cart. Overland traders coming from the interior generally transfer their goods to barges or smaller carts on the mainland side and then ferry them over to the town proper on the islands.

Kuilnos is a Charter Colony and is run primarily by The Society of the Indefatigable Ibis, a spice and plant products trading company with interests in the alchemical applications of the plants of the Starfall region. The official government representative is the colonial governor (called a Doge) who is one of the principle stock holders of the Indefatigable Ibis.

The population of Kuilnos is typical of the Orothoi tropical colonies being composed largely of laborers and low to middle class merchants and traders with a handful of more wealthy merchants and the like forming the upper class. Gnomes, humans, dromites, and other common species of Orothos make up the majority of the population but there are some more 'colorful' citizens and residents. A mercane who goes by the name of Aulirnarme acts as a kind of central clearing house of financial information and predictions for the Indefatigable Ibis and the smaller merchant groups and is highly respected for being both perfectly accurate and endlessly devious. What its motives are in moving to the colony are anyones guess, although it is generally agreed that the presence of a mercane is a good sign for profits, and he spends most of its time playing Adrazo (a card-game rather like a cross between poker, monopoly and the stock market) with a collection of card sharks and hustlers in an opium den (the Orothoi indulge in this vice rather freely as it is considered far more civilized than drunkenness) located on the bridge.

Trade is brisk in Kuilnos and ships from other colonies, Orothos itself, and abroad makes supply stops at the port. Goods from all over the far flung Orothoi trading empire can be found in Kuilnos as can many goods from foreign powers and a large selection of local items.

Outside the town itself the colony extends a ways up the river and small plantations of Starfellen Poppy, B. Lubrificada rubber plants, suger cane, bananas and rum, as well as the odd crop of native Marjanni can be found being worked by indentured servants, debt slaves, criminals, and general laborers. A number of the native Paisanguen herbalists also make regular rounds of these plantations, giving advice on the growth and maintenance of the fields in exchange for worked steel and exotic foreign cordials.

Although the colony is well defended by the Orothoi, it is not in much of a position to claim territories further inland. Indeed to do so would be a violation of the treaty of Sýrenvo of 1532 CR which limited all of the Maritime Republics to maintaining only Thalassocratic empires (coastal and island only). Naval conflicts are, however, common and privateers in the employ of the government raid the colonies of competing powers. These small conflicts and proxy wars are just part of doing business in the colonies.

A common tactic for many trade guilds is to hire on elite groups from the Overzeese Koningen, a native tribe of aquatic orcish Beast Riders that ride Basilosaurus’ (huge snake-like whales), to do raids and sabatoge ships from beneath the surface. These teams are paid handsomely for their efforts in ceramic weapons and armor pieces that do not rust beneath the waves. Attempts have been made to wipe out these roving seafaring barbarians, but every time search parties are sent out, none have ever returned. The only known way the Overzeese Koningen can be contacted is through the mercane Aulirnarme.
