Built upon the cliffs of the Iilagu Trench, Illoanallia is a verdant underwater region.  Over the centuries primitive anguillian tribes that populate the area have coalesced into a single, if fractured, kingdom.  The kingdom owes its existence to the abyssal trench around which it was formed.  Anguillian serfs foray into the cooler lower regions of the trench to forage and farm for food.  They have become adept at cultivating the algae that grows around the cold seeps at the bottom of the trench, and use it to feed themselves as well as to feed other animal crops.

Though many anguillians spend most of their time near the abundant cold seeps on the floor of the abyss, their civilization has been built along the cliff faces of the Iilagu Trench.  The eel-like creatures carve their homes into the living rock of the trench itself.  Holy sites, temples, and other places of power are built from stone quarried from the sea floor outside of the trench.

During its initial formation the Upper Kingdom was little more than several dozen anguillian warlords competing with one another over choice farming areas of the trench.  That changed once the kraken Qualjayn appeared in these cold waters.  It unified the warring tribes and set itself up as the anguillian’s god.  For hundreds of years Qualjayn ruled the Upper Kingdom with iron tentacles.  It made war on the anguillians of the Lower Kingdom, and its brother who ruled them as a god.

Not more than five years ago all of this changed.  An anguillian leader rose up against Quailjayn and overthrew him.  Illoanalli, Queen of the newly renamed kingdom of Illoanallia, slew Qualjayn and devoured its flesh.  She drove its priests from her waters and now prepares to solidify her position as her people’s first and strongest queen by conquering the Lower Kingdom and uniting it with her own.

Quailjayn's Deep

Quailjayn's Deep was once the capital city of the kraken's empire.  Now it is a vast ruin, destroyed by civil war and deep sea magic.

The Queen's Maw

The group of elite warriors known as the Queen's Maw are all savage specimens of the anguillian species that answer directly to the new Queen.  Many fought with her in the struggle to overthrow Qualjayn, and some say that the queen rewarded each of them with a portion of the creature's flesh to consume.
